I recently acquired an external flash for Amelia’s camera and the difference in the pictures is profound. A thanks is in order to Sara and Cheryl for their awesome Graduation present. So far I’ve really only used it on the animals. We discovered that Masen also likes to play with the vibrating Brobee toy just like Arcadia (as well as myself). Also we captured Masen preforming one of his tricks on camera. We also got some good pictures of Cookie.

I would like to get a macro lens (as does Tysen). I love taking pictures of insects (since I don’t have any cute kids to take photographs of). My Sony point-and-shoot does a nice job, as evidenced here, but a macro for my Nikon would be better. These dragonflies magically appeared one day and were around the garden for about two days then disappeared. Where they went I have no idea, but they were quite beautiful when they were here.

I got my photograph photography studio set up. And I am please by the results, much better than any personal scanner that I’ve tried. Adjusting the white balance took a little research, but it turns out quartz halogen lights (think construction flood light you can buy at Home Deopt) run at 3200 deg K. I have two 500w lamps at 45 degree angles on the left and right sides of the camera. The camera is hooked up to the PC via USB and I take the pictures through Canon’s EOS Capture utility. If the photos are warped too much I have a piece of museum qaulity non-reflective uv coated glass. I highly recommend flattening your photos and not using the glass. It attracts smudges and dust like stem cell research atrracts controversy.

I scanned photographed about 250 old photos from my collection, Kathryn’s, and a bunch I borrowed from my grandmother several years ago. It takes a bit of effort to process them. I have to crop, straighten, and fix up the faded colors in some. Plus, I shot all of them to RAW files, which means my slow old computer takes it’s time chugging through them.
