On Sara’s last day with us, we pulled out the rice cereal and gave Arcadia a chance to try to eat with a spoon.  At her 4-month check-up, the pediatrician indicated we could start Arcadia on solid foods (rice cereal) if we were so inclined since she had doubled her birth weight.  I was hesitant at first, since the American Pediatrics Association says you should wait until 6 months, but others indicate that once your baby has doubled its birth weight, eats 8 to 10 times per day, and seems interested in what you are eating, its safe to start.  Well, Arcadia has done two out of the three (she only eats 6 – 7 times per day), and we went for it anyway.  Arcadia seemed to have lots of fun playing with her food.  I’m not so sure she really ate anything (which I know she’s not really going to until she gets the hang of it), but she sure enjoyed helping shove the spoon in her mouth.  Check out some of the photos above of her first foray into solid food.  We’ve tried the cereal again a couple of times to help get her used to it, but again, most of it ends up all over her face, hands, and high chair.

As I indicated above, this week Arcadia started day care.  Its been a bit of an adjustment, and her first day was a little rough (she refused her first and second bottles so day care called me and I went and picked her up early) but hasn’t had any trouble since.  She did cry a bit on her second and third days when we transferred her to a day care employee, but she was quickly distracted with a toy and stopped crying both days.  Today, she didn’t fuss a bit when we dropped her off.  So things are going well.  Hopefully since we are at the end of flu season, we won’t have to deal with any baby sickness for a while.

Last night, Arcadia’s high chair was built.  While we probably won’t start her on solid food for a few more months now, she isn’t a fan of sitting in her bouncy chair when we eat dinner because she is so close to the floor.  Since she does pretty well sitting up, now she can join us at the table while we eat, and hopefully we won’t have to hold her and eat one-handed.

And, most exciting of all, we got snow!  Lots of snow.  Enough snow for my office to close.  I’m sure the snow plows are super busy…they haven’t gotten into our neighborhood yet.  News reports indicate accumulation of 3 – 6 inches, but I think we’ve already gotten 6 inches.  Plus, the storm isn’t over.  The warning is in effect until 2pm.  It’s not really snowing now, but the flurries keep coming every so often.  Of course, since it snowed again, I had to take Arcadia out for her second snow adventure.  Check out the photos for how deep it was on her.  She just sunk right in!
