I saved a ridiculous amount of money ($600) and now have a lens I really like. It’s not perfect, but it is fun to play with. We’re lucky we live where we do, as all I need to do is walk out on to the back deck and find lots of interesting creatures. Here’s a “friend” who I see frequently. He’s currently in the process of regenerating his tail. I’ll keep you informed of his progress.

  • use a tripod
  • use the flash for single shots only
  • primarily use burst mode
  • shoot in raw, unless you want to take longer burst (my 20D can do about 6 raws before pausing, but I know with jpegs it can do more)
  • keep the sun behind the photographer
  • get shots from in front and behind the thrower
  • keep shooting until the disc stops
  • start shooting as the thrower winds up
  • keep spectators from clustering behind the thrower, unless they are posing for the picture

Any more that I missed?  The I bolded the critical ones.
